Hydroponics System Testing at the Office

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in water based nutrient rich solution where root system is supported by  inert mediums such as gravels. Likewise  acquaponics is  a combination of aquaculture (growing edible fishes) and hydroponics (growing plants and vegetables in soil-less growth beds).

Because plants are grown in soilless, nutrient-rich, well-oxygenated water, they experience fast growth and high yield. In addition, systems are space-saving , can be set-up indoors and operated year-round.  SWN  is  currently testing hydroponics system at its office premise in Kathmandu using unused office resources such as trunks, plastic sheets, trays, thermo cools etc.  We plan  to develop the system into a fully functional aquaponics system in future which will be a pilot learning initiative to promote urban farming and address food security problems due to climate change.
