Capacity Development Workshop on Landslides and Mitigation using Nature-based Solutions (NbS)
Do you want to learn how to assess landslides and use nature-based solutions/bio-engineering to make roads more resilient?
That is exactly what the Pratibaddha-III project trained the practicing engineers of Lumbini Province on the recent workshop. A two-day capacity development workshop on “Landslides and Their Mitigation Using Nature-Based Solutions (NbS)” was held in Lamahi, Dang, from February 4–5, 2026.
Objective of the workshop:
To strengthen participants’ knowledge and skills to assess landslide risks and apply NbS/ bio-engineering approaches for mitigation in the province.

- Landslide science and components
- Landslide assessment and mapping
- Application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS)/bio-engineering techniques
Participants:
Engineers and technical personnel from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Infrastructure, and the Road Division Offices across the Lumbini province actively engaged in the training.
Resource Persons:
The sessions were led by Senior Geologist Prof. Dr. Megh Raj Dhital, with technical facilitation by senior trainer Mr. Shreekamal Dwivedi and Bio-engineering expert Mr. Shankar Rai.
The workshop significantly strengthened provincial engineers’ capacity to assess landslide risks and apply nature-based solutions to enhance road resilience across the province.
The program concluded with remarks from Mr. Bhimarjun Pandey, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, Lumbini Province, who emphasized that despite bio-engineering being a highly effective and sustainable approach, its application in infrastructure projects has been declining. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in revitalizing and mainstreaming bio-engineering practices within provincial road development planning.
The EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid funded Pratibaddha-III project is led by People in Need Nepal in partnership with the Community Self Reliance Centre (CSRC), Scott Wilson Nepal, and Save the Children in Nepal.
