Scott Wilson Nepal, in collaboration with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), the Department of Roads (DoR), and the Department of Local Infrastructure Development (DoLID) under a Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CARE) for South Asia Project funded by the World Bank, recently completed two key studies to make Nepal’s roads and bridges more climate-resilient:
Sediment Load Study
- Estimated sediment loads at the bridge axis help inform resilient bridge design and maintenance for Ratu Khola Bridge, Dhanusha, Nepal
Enhanced Drainage, Culvert, and Climate-Resilient Materials
- Conducted a feasibility study for using Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) and Polymer-Modified Bitumen (PMB) for durable, climate-resilient roads.
- Prepared technical designs and cost estimates for improved drainage and culverts, slope stabilization with climate-resilient materials, and nature-based solutions (NbS) for a road in Dhanusha, Nepal.
SWN believes in the shared responsibility to contribute to the actionable and practical designs, solutions, and tools for resilient transport infrastructure to cope with intense and unpredictable rainfall, sediment flow events, and extreme temperatures caused by climate change.
