SWN has strong capacity and field-based experience in geohazard assessment, particularly in Nepal’s complex and hazard-prone hilly and mountainous regions. Our multidisciplinary team—including engineering geologists, geotechnical engineers, and hydrologists—has carried out detailed geohazard assessments in more than 90 landslide- and flood-prone settlements. These assessments involve the identification of landslide-vulnerable sites and their categorization into Category I, II, and III based on risk levels—an approach that has been pivotal in informing NDRRMA’s decisions on the relocation and resettlement of landslide-impacted households. In addition, SWN sub-categorizes Category II settlements and supports at-risk communities in planning and implementing appropriate mitigation measures. We work in close coordination with the Federal Government, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), and provincial and local governments to ensure our work aligns with national policies, priorities, and local needs. SWN also supports all three tiers of government in integrating geohazard findings into climate-resilient infrastructure planning, particularly for roads and slope stabilization—while promoting the application of nature-based solutions (NbS) and bioengineering techniques.
