Background
SWN was appointed by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) to conduct a 7-day capacity development training on design and implementation of small-scale infrastructure from August 9, to August 15, 2021. The training program was organized under “Capacity Development Support to Governance (CDSG)” program of GIZ.
A total of 28 representatives (Engineers, Sub-engineers and Assistant Sub-engineers) from 14 local governments of 4 different provinces (Province 2, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudur-paschim) attended the 7-day training program. The training program was physically carried out in Kohalpur. Both Classroom-based and Field-based sessions were organized with due safety considerations to the ongoing pandemic.
Key Activities and Service Provided by SWN
The participants learnt the following key engineering skills from the event:
- Planning and design of community buildings.
- Field survey and design of small-scale water supply (WASH) and irrigation schemes.
- Detailed engineering survey and design of Rural Roads.
- Understanding and use of Government Norms and Standards in planning small-scale infrastructures.
- Procurement procedures, rate analysis for a range of work items, project cost estimation, preparation of BoQs, payment approach and preparation of Work Completion Report.
Outcome of the assignment
The training program familiarized the participants with some of the key engineering skills required to undertake the design and implementation of the common small scaled infrastructure works. The results of Pre-test and Post-test carried at the beginning and the end of the training respectively ensured that the participants understood the training contents thoroughly.
