Background
Action Against Hunger is committed towards reducing malnutrition induced morbidity and mortality rate of children. It is operational in Nepal since 2005. Following the Gorkha earthquake in 2015, Action Against Hunger has broadened and scaled up its interventions in multi-sector. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) was one of the most prominent emergency response intervention.
SW Nepal understands that Action Against Hunger has not only reinstated the damaged WASH facilities but also aims to strengthen the capacity of local organizations and government in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector.
Objective of the assignment
To develop strategic and sustainable WASH plan which will guide to plan effective, equitable, efficient, and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene services at local level.
Key activities and services provided by SW Nepal
SW Nepal will carry out the following activities to meet the study’s objectives.
- Identification and planning of watershed and water resources taking into account cross cutting issues such as climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
- Prioritization of settlement on the basis of access to WASH facilities, remoteness, and prevalence of high poverty and exclusion
- Capacity building for sustainable WASH planning and implementation at local governments
- Promotion of right based approach, equity and inclusiveness in WASH sector
- Establishment of WASH baseline
- Link with the district, federal and national level plans and strategies
Output
Following are the outputs SW Nepal will deliver:
- Multistakeholder workshop with District WASH coordination committee (D-WASH-CC)
- Develop strategic WASH plan for two rural municipalities in Rasuwa district: Amachhodingmo and Uttargaya that will cover following areas:
- Drinking water supply situation
- Status of WASH in school/ health post/institution
- Status of WASH in Household level
- Status of WASH in local government institution
- Stakeholder investment mapping
- Information on existing scheme
- Remoteness mapping
- Water borne diseases data
- Climate Change and Disaster Risk related data
