PMEP of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Government of Nepal, organized technical training to its Technical Assistants from all the Local Governments of Nepal. The objective of the training assignment was to increase the technical and managerial skills of technical assistants employed by PMEP, and inform them about public work programs (PWP), social and environmental safeguards, among others.

A team from SWN was assigned to design and conduct the training covering all the aspects of PWPs along with the detailed description of various community infrastructures.

Key activities and services by SWN

Some of the activities that the SWN team undertook as part of this assignment included:

  • Designed a suitable training syllabus that incorporated all the key aspects of PWPs and community infrastructures along with the demonstration of key engineering equipment.
  • Provided 3-days physical training to 08 participants on the first stage and 2-days zoom-based virtual training to 547 participants in the second stage due to the threat of the ongoing pandemic.
  • Provided the set of relevant reference documents and codes to all the participants that could assist them in their future assignments.
  • Provided in-depth recommendations to the PMEP officials considering the lessons learned during the training.

 Outputs of the assignment

The training program helped the technical assistants to understand the common technical problems and solutions that they encounter while carrying out the projects through PMEP. The training also helped the officials from PMEP to identify the areas that requires their intervention in the next fiscal year.
