Introduction
Scott Wilson Nepal in association with Engineering Study & Research Centre (ESRC) undertook the Feasibility of Solid Waste Management Project (SWMP) as a strategic partnership project in selected clusters of municipalities in province 1. The SWMP Project seeks to assess the existing waste management practices in selected clusters in Province 1 and identify and recommend the best design, cost, and technological modality for each municipality and the best approach for partnership within them.
Objective of the Assignment
The overall objective of the project is to carry out a pre-feasibility assessment of optimal and practical solid waste management systems in the four clusters of Local Governments (LG) as well as explore and suggest approaches for collaboration and sharing of resources and experiences for potential clusters municipalities to collaborate.
Key Activities and Service Provided by SWN
SWN applies both qualitative and quantitative research processes and activities targeting all four clusters. The key activities SWN carried out include:
- Conduct structured household questionnaire (KAP Survey) and qualitative data through Key Informant Interviews (KII), and site-based observations.
- Analyze both quantitative and qualitative data.
- Presentation of findings.
- Offer the best technical recommendations to the Municipalities
- Prepare individual municipality reports and a Main Report.
Outcome
- Challenges and opportunities in Solid Waste Management in all 4 clusters are identified and documented.
- Potential clusters for partnership were identified and best design, estimated cost, technological modality, and overall improvement in SWN practices are recommended.
