Gorkha is a food deficit district, particularly the remote northern areas. WFP supports the communities to improve their access to food and other goods by engaging people in Food for Work Programme (FfW). WFP allocated 300 MT of rice to support the communities for their labor contribution along Arughat-Sotibazaar section.
Objective
The objectives of the project are :
• Construct 7.5km long motorable road from Azuwakhola to Liding section of the extended Arughat – Sotibazaar Section enlarging the width to 4.5m from the original trail
• Provide food for food insecure villages of Aru Arbang, Thumi, and Lapu
• Provide access to more food insecure villages in the northen part of Gorkha district (Gumda, Laprak, Sirdibas, Manbu, Kashigaun, Uhiya, Keraunja, Chhekampar, Chumchet, Bihi, Prok, Lho, and Samagaun)

Key Services provided by Firm
- Survey, design and cost estimation works.
- Coordination with Gorkha district officials at DDC, DTO and DoR.
- Coordination with Users’ committee to direct rice mobilisation, labour group development and inclusive participation in all activities of the programme.
- Orientation programme to the users’ committee and the group leaders on FfW working modality, social mobilisation activities, health and safety issues, principle of wage calculation and payments.
- Social mobilisation.
- Bioengineering along with civil engineering works.
Output
• 1552 workers have received the rice as wage for their labour which is sufficient for overcoming the food shortages from 14 to 140 days in their families.
• Constructed a 6.6 km road that will be used to transport food and other requirements in the remote parts of northen villages. It is expected that the road will contribute towards food security for the food insecure villages and increase economic activities.
