Project Background

SWN was awarded the USAID Perception Study by USAID Learning for Development. This study encompassed all seven provinces of Nepal to obtain information on the level of awareness, recognition, and perceptions of Nepali citizens regarding the mission, initiatives, and commitments of USAID/Nepal and its brand. The findings of this study, built evidence to provide recommendations to inform USAID’s strategic communication campaign strategy.


Consulting Services and Activities

Under this project, SWN undertook these activities:

  • Trained 34 facilitators to interview 4,246 respondents for quantitative survey, design survey instruments across 55 to 60 districts.
  • Ensured ethical and human rights standards and protect participant’s privacy.
  • Analyzed survey to finalize Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and In-Depth Interview (IDI) locations.
  • Trained 4 FGD and 3 IDI facilitators, for 15 FGDs and 26 telephonic IDIs in 14 districts, designed qualitative research instruments
  • Monitored fieldwork, and ensured data quality with spot check, and 25% back check.
  • Utilized statistical techniques such as descriptive analysis, regression, chi-square tests, and factor analysis to discern patterns, trends, and relationships.

Assignment Objectives

The objectives of this assignment are:

  • Define the research objectives, data collection methods, sample size, and timelines to ensure a robust baseline assessment.
  • Provide and manage a data collection team, including enumerators, facilitators, field supervisors and other technical personnel required including providing training logistics.
  • Coordinate, conduct and supervise the survey across target locations in the selected areas.
  • Present a detailed report outlining the key findings, supported by evidence, charts, and graphs; along with data-driven, culturally relevant recommendations.

Outputs and/ or Learnings

Comprehensive and holistic understanding of Nepali citizens’ perception of USAID’s brand, initiatives, and mission; to inform USAID’s communication campaign strategy. Identification of effective areas of work and optimal communication platforms.
