Disaster Resilient Infrastructure

Scott Wilson Nepal (SWN) hasdeep expertisein the planning, design, and implementation of disaster-resilient infrastructure that strengthens community resilience and reduces vulnerability in hazard-prone areas. Over the past two decades, SWN has contributed to post-disaster reconstruction, and the integration of climate and disaster risk reduction measures into infrastructure development.

SWN’s core competencies include:

  • Risk-informed Design Incorporation of multi-hazard risk assessments in infrastructure planning, ensuring structures are resilient to earthquakes, floods, landslides, and climate-induced disasters.
  • Post-disaster Reconstruction Technical leadership in rebuilding infrastructure after major disasters, particularly following the 2015 Nepal Earthquake, with a focus on cost-effective, community-based, and environmentally sensitive solutions.
  • Retrofitting and Strengthening Application of proven retrofitting techniques for public buildings and housing such as ferrocement jacketing, GI wire mesh, splint and bandage, and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) technologies.
  • Green and Climate-resilient Infrastructure Research and application of sustainable building materials and nature-based solutions that enhance climate resilience while minimizing environmental impact.
  • Capacity Building and Community Engagement Strengthening local capacity for operation and maintenance of resilient infrastructure through training, guidelines, and community participation.
  • Policy and Technical Support Supporting government agencies and development partners in mainstreaming disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate adaptation into infrastructure development policies and practices.

SWN has collaborated with a wide range of stakeholders including the Government of Nepal, UNDP, ADB, USAID, and international NGOs in delivering robust infrastructure solutions that not only withstand disasters but also enhance long-term community resilience.
