Background
Kankai Municipality in Province 1, Jhapa, Nepal is implementing a biogas plant in collaboration with four other municipalities; Birtamod, Arjundhara and Mechinagr, with the support of Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC). The project site is located in Sukedangi, Ward No. 2, and the municipality is in the final stages of completing a 4000-cum biogas plant and accessories. The biogas will be distributed to around 800 households located 4 km away from the site. The municipality requested SDC to prepare a Detail project report for the distribution system and provide technical support for its implementation. The key components of support include biogas upgrading and bottling, electrification, and biogas grid provisions for supplying biogas to end users.
Objective of the Assignment
The objectives of this assignment is to engage a competent technical service provider to develop a detailed design of the grid system and undertake construction monitoring works to assure quality of the grid system designed supply gas from the point of gas production to the densely populated urban area.
The specific objective of the assignment is to:
- Prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the grid system with detailed design and cost estimates.
- Provide quality assurance of the construction works with regular monitoring of the works and its deliverables.
Key Activities and Service Provided by SWN
SWN undertakes the following activities:
- Conduct a field visit to the proposed site at Kankai Municipality to identify the most appropriate approach to route the grid system.
- Carried out 580 potential biogas user household surveys
- Develop appropriate maps of the households to be connected to the gas grid along with a detailed gas grid layout plan
- Supervision to design and quality assurance of the biogas grid distribution system
- Recommend the necessary work and material items, including their specifications, required to establish a robust biogas grid system.
- Recommend appropriate measures to be implemented to avoid leakage of the biogas in the pipelines.
Outcome
The project is expected to provide cooking biogas to more than 800 households and produce high-value organic manure for the farming communities in Kankai Municipality, Jhapa.
