Background
Scott Wilson Nepal was awarded the MEL Training and Capacity Building Event by the American Himalayan Foundation (AHF). Impressed by SWN’s strong reputation in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, AHF approached the organization directly. AHF planned to provide MEL training to two members from each of its partner organizations to help establish MEL systems within their respective organizations. SWN organized and facilitated this 5-day training to enhance participants’ skills in MEL system strategizing and contribute to their overall knowledge development. The training was scheduled from the second week to the end of September 2024.
Objective of the Assignment
The objectives were:
- To provide comprehensive training to participants on Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning principles, strategies, and skills, enhancing their overall understanding of the subject.
- To build participants’ capacity to establish and manage Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning departments within their respective organizations.
- To enhance capacity of AHF’s partner organizations to implement informed strategies for improved project outcomes and organizational growth.
Key Activities and Service Provided by SWN
Under this project, SWN was undertaking these activities:
- Conduct a comprehensive Training Needs Assessment survey to understand participants’ knowledge base and comfort with MEL and adjacent skills, to create an informed training module in accordance.
- Develop a strategic Training Module Syllabus based on the findings of the Training Needs Assessment survey, organized into sections such as statistical sampling, data collection, data analysis, report writing and other essential skills.
- Lead and facilitate training following the Training Module Syllabus.
- Prepare a final completion report covering results of the Training Needs Assessment, followed by the final Knowledge Assessment and comparing the two. Additionally, include learnings and recommendations to inform future projects of similar nature.
Outputs
A well-developed knowledge base and capacity for AHF partner organizations to establish own MEL units within their systems. Well trained individuals with enhanced project management and MEL skills for quality project delivery. A solid understanding of successful training facilitation methodologies.
