Background

Pratibaddha-II “Together for Disaster Preparedness and Early Action in Landslide Affected Hill Areas of Nepal” is a European Commission funded program under ECHO that aims to increase resilience of communities at risk of landslide and flood in hill areas of Nepal in four municipalities in Sindhupalchowk and Rasuwa districts. SWN is in a consortium with People in Need (PIN), Community Self-Reliance Center (CSRC) and Save the Children Nepal and supports to implement the activities under Result 1 and 2.


Objective of the Project

The objective of the project is to strengthen capacities of communities at risk of landslide and flood, and governmental officials at the local, provincial and federal government, to plan, implement and mobilize resources for disaster preparedness and early action. The specific objectives are to:

  • Sub-categorize the CAT-II settlements to strengthen governmental understanding of mitigation measures
  • Facilitate implementation of Rura Road Construction Guideline (RRCG) and climate smart approaches for road construction at risk communities
  • Raise awareness of communities on CAT II mitigation measures
  • Advocate for the implementation of landslide disaster preparedness and mitigation

Key Activities and Service Provided by SWN

SWN undertakes the following activities:

  • Conduct eight workshops for the revision of DPRP
  • Conduct four workshops to facilitate implementation of RRCG
  • Conduct four SOP development workshops for sub-categorization of CAT II settlements
  • Conduct four events of capacity building sessions
  • Radio and other communication (social media, tiktok) programs
  • Exposure visits in municipality
  • Demonstration of mitigation activities

Expected Outputs of the Assignment

The project envisages achieving the following outputs under Result 1 and 2 at the end of the assignment period:

  • Risk communities benefit from landslide disaster preparedness and mitigation measures
  • CAT II and III households supported with adoption of risk mitigation measures
  • Rural road constructed, and sites maintenance conducted using Rural Road Construction Guidelines
  • Community small-scale infrastructures and facilities built or protected
  • Municipalities allocate at least 5% of annual local budgets for landslide and flood risk preparedness and response
